I was checking out the blog of The Rider and stumbled upon this site that hosted a photography challenge called Share Your Week. Seeing as this week, week 36, is about travel, I thought I’d give it a go.
Oh, thank you The Rider, for liking my post and leading me to Cee’s Photography Challenge.
So here goes…
1) What’s your least favourite mode of transportation?
Ans: That would most definitely be the cruise ship. When I was still a full fledged SIA Brat, my dad would bring us on an annual chess competition organised by staff from airlines around the world. I was fascinated by the idea because we would get to go to exotic places and I’d get to watch relative pros play chess. Yes, call me a nerd, I don’t mind or care. That said, one year when we were sailing in the Caribbean on a huge luxury cruise ship cos that was where the competition was held at, it was the worst holiday ever for me. It was 7 days of torture. I was throwing up the minute we sailed away from the port and went out to sea. And to add to the torture, I was supposed to celebrate my birthday on the cruise ship. There was cake and a celebration. Except the birthday girl was throwing up in the tiny cabin that all four of us were squeezed into and I remembered very little about anything that happened on that ship.
That’s how I found out I had absolutely no sea legs. Not fun, at all! I still shudder at the word ‘cruise’.
2) Where do you like to vacation?
Ans: I’m a city girl so I prefer the ease of transportation when I travel. While I like the quiet and peace of the countryside or a beach town, my favourite vacation destination of all time is New York City. I’ve been there twice so far and I’m still not bored of the city. I’ve heard that New York City is not fun to live in but exciting to visit. Well, if I could afford it, I would go to New York City once a year just to visit – basically a vacation. But a return ticket from Singapore would set me back at least $2,200 and take me 17 hours to get to. So going back there again will require time to raise the funds to do so. Anyone want to contribute? I’ve yet to write the My Week In New York City – April 2012 series, it will come as soon as I can find time to start on it.
Runner up vacation destination is… Las Vegas Strip. Told you I was a city girl, or maybe a moth. Seeing as moths are attracted to bright lights…
3) Which place do you recommend as a Must-See? Please state which country, state or providence.
Ans: Without a doubt, you must see Oia, Santorini (Greece). It is beautiful! As mentioned in Santorini Snapped!, I enjoyed the peace and quiet of Santorini during the off peak season, but I believe Santorini will be lovely in any season. It’s got good food, great views, and you’ll never feel unwelcome by the locals, even the stray dogs and cats are friendly and so good natured.
4) If money was not an issue, would you go on a cruise? If so where would you go?
Ans: No! I still shudder at the thought of a cruise. That said, I wish I didn’t get so sick at sea because I would love to cruise to Antarctica or Alaska! My parents went on an Alaskan cruise not too long ago, I saw the photographs they took and wished so badly that I had gone on the cruise with them. It’s not cheap, but it’s definitely on my ever-expanding travel bucket list.
What do you think?
Take part in this challenge too! Every traveller is different, but I’d love to know what kind of traveller you are. It’s just 4 simple questions, what’s the harm right?
