This song is infectious. While I was hitting the gym today this song came on and I couldn’t stop moving to its beat and lip syncing along. But of course I controlled myself as best I could as I was the only girl at the gym and didn’t want to come across as nutty.

So I did the next best thing. I went to the girls toilet and danced it out. And it felt so good!

It’s not just the catchy tune that makes me love this song so much. It’s the lyrics.

If you’ve been following my blog you’ll know that I really enjoy a lot of songs by The Script. When I first heard this song, I really thought it was sung by The Script. It’s only when I ‘Shazam-ed’ it that I found out the version I really liked was performed by Season 9’s American Idol winner Kris Allen.

But, it’s no surprise why I like the lyrics of the song, it was written by Steve Kipner and The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue, Glen Power, and Mark Sheehan!

The song’s straightforward lyrics needs no explanation really. It’s about making every second count, living like we could die any time, and ensuring that we all die with no regrets. The song reminds us that we need to show our love and tell people who matter to us that we love them.

My life journey right now is a little bumpy and this song came at the right time. It’s true, “sometimes we fall down and can’t get back up” but like the song says, “we only got 86 400 seconds in a day to turn it all around or to throw it all away”. I choose not to throw it all away. I choose to turn it all around. Because I believe we all gotta “live like we’re dying”.

While I may be in this situation because I was too vocal and cared too much, but I have no regrets. At least I was true to myself. Life is short, and it’s better that I no longer have to waste my time on people who shouldn’t matter and who don’t deserve my precious time.

That what my 2015 was about.

Live Like We’re Dying Lyrics:

Sometimes we fall down and can’t get back up
We’re hiding behind skin that’s too tough
How come we don’t say I love you enough
Till it’s too late, it’s not too late

Our hearts are hungry for a food that won’t come
And we could make a feast from these crumbs
And we’re all staring down the barrel of a gun
So if your life flashed before you
What would you wish you would’ve done

Yeah, we gotta start
Looking at the hands of the time we’ve been given here
This is all we got and we gotta start thinkin’ it
Every second counts on a clock that’s tickin’
Gotta live like we’re dying

We only got 86 400 seconds in a day
To turn it all around or to throw it all away
Gotta tell ’em that we love ’em while we got the chance to say,
Gotta live like we’re dying oh

And if your plane fell out of the skies
Who would you call with your last goodbye
Should be so careful who we let fall out our lives
And when we long for absolution, there’ll be no one on the line

Yeah, we gotta start
Looking at the hands of the time we’ve been given here
This is all we got and we gotta start thinkin’ it
Every second counts on a clock that’s tickin’
Gotta live like we’re dying

We only got 86 400 seconds in a day
To turn it all around or to throw it all away
Gotta tell ’em that we love ’em while we got the chance to say,
Gotta live like we’re dying oh

Like we’re dying
Oh, like we’re dying
Like we’re dying
Oh, like we’re dying

We only got 86 400 seconds in a day
To turn it all around or to throw it all away
Gotta tell ’em that we love ’em while we got the chance to say,
Gotta live like we’re dying

You never know a good thing till it’s gone
You never see a crash till it’s head on
And why we think we’re right when we’re dead wrong,
You never know a good thing till it’s gone

Yeah, gotta start

Music Video:

The music video doesn’t really tell a story. But I this it doesn’t need one. The huge digital clock counting down to zero really embodies the song. I also like the moody and slight eerie colour tone used for the shots. Stylistically I think it works for the message it’s trying to put across. I especially like that it ends with the sunrise, signalling hope for the future if you take heed of the song’s message.

Final Thoughts:

Perfect song for releasing stress and dancing. Well I suppose dancing releases stress. But the tune is infectious and the lyrics gets me excited and hopeful.
